Triptides

December 15, 2011

Fans of naive, simplistic 60’s pop are gonna love Triptides ’cause that’s exactly what this Georgia duo offers up. A nice blend of the early surf sounds and the pre-Beatles era jangly American pop of the 60’s, their third studio album Psychic Summer offers up thirteen great tracks ranging from classic surf to fuzzed out pop and some slightly more psychedelic tracks. I’m hearing tons of influences, pretty much everything from The Rip Chords to The Byrds‘ early material as well as Beau Brummels, and the band manages to blend it all just perfectly.

Four albums in total of “cute” summer music, perfectly underproduced, with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting all the way through. Too bad Greg Shaw passed away, because he’d sign these guys to Bomp Records immediately!
